The Rock to officially announce retirement after returning for one last match against 6-time World Champion? Exploring the possibility

The Rock's return last month generated a lot of buzz around WWE and a potential in-ring return by The Great One. During his appearance on SmackDown, the Hollywood star had a war of words with Austin Theory and delivered the People's Elbow to the young superstar. However, there is still hope that the former WWE Champion will return for one more match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

The Brahma Bull recently revealed that he was initially slated to face The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 39. Unfortunately, the match could not materialize. However, the Hollywood star has left the door open for a bout against his cousin Roman Reigns at the Grandest Stage of Them All next year.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer stated that he believes that Rock would return for a match against six-time World Champion Roman Reigns and then announce his retirement after being defeated by The Tribal Chief.

It is a dream match that all fans want to see happen. But ultimately, it will depend on The Rock's schedule and whether he is free or not.

''I always figured Reigns to win and Rock then retiring in the ring,'' stated Meltzer.

There are no plans for The Rock to defeat Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has been the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for more than 1100 days now. While many fans want to see The Rock defeat Reigns and end his historical reign. Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there is currently no intention for The Great One to capture the Universal Championship.

Furthermore, Meltzer clarified that, in contrast to last year, the expectations within the company for a showdown between Rock and Roman Reigns to occur this year are not very high.

''The belief is that Johnson will have plenty of work once the strikes are over he’ll have plenty to do. What we were told is that Rock is not going to come back and win the title. I’d never anticipate that would be an issue as if the match was to happen,'' said Meltzer.

If The Brahma Bull does return, then a showdown with Roman Reigns would be a passing of the torch moment.

The Rock can announce his retirement from pro wrestling officially after the match. Retiring an icon like The Great One will add one more feather to the cap of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
