Triple H Misses Major Opportunity With Survivor Series: WarGames Booking

WWE is preparing for Survivor Series: WarGames, taking place on November 29 in San Diego. One of the key matches announced on RAW is John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship. Dominik interrupted Cena during his farewell appearance and demanded a rematch in his hometown, leading to the match being officially confirmed.

However, this decision may be a missed opportunity by Triple H.

The main attraction of the event is the Men’s WarGames Match, featuring Team CM Punk vs. Team Vision, strengthened by the returns of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Many fans expected Cena to compete in WarGames, especially since Lesnar squashed him at Wrestlepalooza, leaving their rivalry unresolved. WarGames would have given Cena a chance at payback and reignited his issues with The Vision after their brief clash at Night of Champions.

Additionally, after achieving Grand Slam status, Cena competing in his first—and possibly only—WarGames match before retirement would have been a fitting milestone. Leaving him out feels like a creative misstep.

Cena’s final WWE match is scheduled for Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII on December 13. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he is expected to headline the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame, marking a quick return to WWE programming just months after retiring.
