Former World Champ Ready to End John Cena’s Intercontinental Reign, Says Insider

John Cena Retains Intercontinental Title, Possible Setup for Gunther Match

WWE superstar John Cena successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio this past Monday on RAW at TD Garden in Boston. The emotionally charged match marked one of Cena’s final appearances in front of his home fans. Cena secured the victory with his signature Attitude Adjustment.

Veteran manager Jim Cornette, on this week’s Drive Thru podcast, suggested that Cena’s IC title win could be a setup for a dream match against Gunther. Cornette believes Cena putting Gunther over would cement him as a main-event star, noting that Cena’s recent match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza didn’t have the same long-term impact.

Cena’s final match is scheduled for December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington.

His last opponent will be determined through the Last Time is Now tournament, with Rusev, Sheamus, Jey Uso, and LA Knight advancing this week. Fans are eagerly awaiting who will face the Cenation Leader in his farewell match.
