5 Things that could happen if Seth Rollins defeats Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship

Universal Champion Roman Reigns got a massive surprise at the end of this week's episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Adam Pearce had the duty to decide The Tribal Chief's next challenger, and he picked a more-than-worthy star in the form of Seth Rollins.

Former Shield brothers, Reigns and Rollins have had a storied past together, as well as against each other. It's not wrong to claim that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are two of WWE's biggest stars currently.

Now, Reigns has held the Universal title for over 450 days, and once again, he will enter this bout against Rollins at Royal Rumble as the favorite to retain his title. However, one can't completely rule out the possibility of Seth Rollins ending this historical title run.

Let's take a look at five things that could happen if The Visionary dethrones Roman Reigns and becomes the new Universal Champion. Be sure to comment down and let us know your thoughts on the same.

#5 Either Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins turn face

Roman Reigns' Universal Championship run is being considered by many as one of the best title runs in recent memory, and rightfully so. There's a saying that it's the man who makes the championship and not the other way around. Reigns has done exactly that by making the Universal title prestigious over the last one and a half years. Whenever he does finally lose the title, it will be a huge deal.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are two of the top heels on the roster currently. If Rollins ends up defeating his Shield brother, we might see one of the two stars turn babyface. Most likely, it could be The Architect who has been a heel for quite some time now and fans want to see him back as a babyface.

#4 Roman Reigns goes on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship

One of the great things about Roman Reigns' current Universal title run has been him feuding with multiple stars at any given time. The same is the scenario right now. He is set to defend his title against Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble, however, he also is in a feud with current WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.

This week on SmackDown, the company gave multiple hints that we could see Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. While the current scenario is a "champion vs. champion", this could change if The Tribal Chief loses the Universal title. We might see him go on to challenge Lesnar for the WWE title at WrestleMania 38.

#3 The world titles could swap brands

Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns is surely going to be an exciting feud. However, this raises questions over the brand split. What's the point of having a brand split if superstars can still appear on the other one and even challenge for the world title of that brand?

An even bigger question is - which brand will the Universal Champion belong to if Seth Rollins defeats Roman Reigns? In our opinion, a major consequence of Rollins' winning the Universal title from Reigns could be both the world title swapping brands.

There's no way WWE would keep Seth Rollins and his wife Becky Lynch on two different brands. Moreover, if Roman Reigns ends up feuding with Brock Lesnar, FOX won't want to give away its biggest star to USA Network's RAW.

We could see Rollins taking the title to Monday Night RAW, and possibly changing it back to the original red color. On the other hand, Lesnar could move over to SmackDown with the WWE Championship and continue his feud with Reigns.

#2 Seth Rollins main events WrestleMania 38 against the winner of the Royal Rumble

If Seth Rollins defeats Roman Reigns to become the new Universal Champion, he could end up main eventing one of the two nights of WrestleMania 38. Recent reports suggest that the original plan for Day 1 was for Rollins to win the WWE Championship and main event WrestleMania 38 against the winner of the upcoming Royal Rumble.

Reigns missing the show forced the company to make last-minute changes. This included Brock Lesnar getting added to the WWE title match and becoming the new champion.

However, Seth Rollins winning the Universal title could lead to WWE going on with their original plan, with the winner of the Royal Rumble challenging The Architect at WrestleMania for his title.

#1 Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar winner takes all at WrestleMania 38

Another interesting and shocking idea could be to have a massive triple threat "winner takes all" match at WrestleMania 38. If Roman Reigns loses the Universal title to Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble, WWE could book a huge twist and make him enter the Royal Rumble match and win it all. He could then go on to challenge both the world champions for a showdown at WrestleMania 38.

Rollins as the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar as the WWE Champion, and Reigns as the Royal Rumble winner could be a blockbuster feud.

This would also be full-circle storytelling as Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract during the WrestleMania 31 main event between Roman Reigns and The Beast Incarnate seven years ago. Who would you like to see walk out as the WWE and Universal Champion if this match happens?
