WWE SmackDown - Best and worst- Real reason why Roman Reigns dumped Paul Heyman, CM Punk chants break out live on air in Chicago

Look at the kind of competition that WWE SmackDown faces this weekend. Fans are flocking the theaters to catch the latest installment of Spider-Man. Meanwhile, those who're not adventurous enough to venture out during these testy times can just watch Season 2 of The Witcher. How did WWE SmackDown fare against this stiff competition?

To its credit, WWE SmackDown started strong and ended well. Sometimes that's all you can ask for, and yes, the blue brand delivered in this particular department. That said, there are shortcomings galore with the program as well that we'll delve into, in this article.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts, views, and comments in the section right below.

#3 Best/Worst: WWE SmackDown gets the same match as Day 1?

The Usos and The New Day will probably go down as the most important tag teams for the industry since Edge & Christian, and The Hardy Boyz. That said, it was weird to see them competing on WWE SmackDown when they're supposed to clash at Day 1 as well. The audience was extremely vocal about this, and they announced their displeasure on social media.

The match was great as one would have assumed when it began. These two teams have a chemistry that is unmatched and it comes from facing each other for such a long time. Both teams can carry the WWE SmackDown Tag Team division upon their sturdy shoulders.

But this is one of the issues that arises when you release way too much talent. The WWE SmackDown roster is sparse and you're forced to give away a pay-per-view match, with fewer stakes, before the big showdown.

Why should fans be excited to see the two teams clash at the pay-per-view?

#2 Best: Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are allied again?

The final segment on WWE SmackDown was probably the best thing on the entire show. Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns played their parts perfectly, and when Brock Lesnar strode out, the crowd was thunderous live.

Despite the fact that they've clashed before, even this fresh matchup seems exciting. The only reason why this break-up may have happened is because Roman Reigns does not really need Paul Heyman anymore, who could potentially elevate talents that do.

#2 Worst: WWE SmackDown is graced with CM Punk chants

Hey, if you muck it up in Chicago, the crowd is going to drown you in CM Punk chants. These are not necessarily AEW fans, these are fans who're sick and tired of being served the usual drivel comprising of Moss and Corbin's bad humor.

These are jokes that would be dated in 1935 and the kind of heat they're generating with the WWE SmackDown audience is not the good kind. Poor Drew McIntyre deserves far better than what he's being given.

#1 Best: The Naomi storyline is actually intriguing

Naomi picked up a big win on WWE SmackDown this week when she pinned Shayna Baszler in almost no time.

Yes, this story has maybe overstayed its welcome in a sense, but at the same time, Naomi is quickly becoming a very popular babyface.

The crowd is firmly behind her and she may soon become a serious contender for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship. Do not be surprised if she competes against Charlotte Flair at the Royal Rumble next. Hey, she may even pick up a win!

#1 Worst: The rest of the WWE SmackDown tag team division

Honestly, the company has given us no reason to root for Erik and Ivar, the Viking Raiders yet. Sure, they got a big win but did it register? Similarly, they haven't given us a reason to root against WWE SmackDown heels- Shanky and Jinder Mahal either.

If anything, the audience may feel a sense of indifference towards them. Some amount of build-up leading up to this match to build intrigue would have helped.
